Confluence
Youth groups: Sturminster Newton
After Mere, Helen Porter worked with a second youth group, further downstream at Sturminster Newton, on a less ambitious project with a shorter timescale. She worked to encourage the youth club members to write new river - inspired songs. They keenly volunteered a number of imaginative and thoughtful pieces, which Helen then helped to develop in terms of words, music and arrangements.
These songs provided one of the two strands of music-making by young people, in a concert organised by Confluence at the local high school, where they were performed by club members. This was the first time that the Youth Club and School had worked together.
A song from these sessions was also incorporated into the chorus of the Musical Box concert at Sturminster Mill.
